Antitrust says allows connection operators to set up 5G JV

MOSCOW, Dec 24 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service has approved a request of state-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom and mobile operators MTS, VimpelCom, and MegaFon to create a joint venture to develop 5G, the watchdog said on Thursday in a statement.

“On December 21, the Federal Antimonopoly Service considered an application on preliminary consent to signing an agreement on joint activities of the operators of mobile radio telephone connection on the territory of the Russian Federation on construction of 5G networks,” the service said.

“The Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia approved the deal subject to fulfilment of the warning aimed to ensure competition on the market of provision of connection services.”

The participants of the deal are to develop and agree with the antimonopoly service the terms of the use of infrastructure and/or joint exploitation of radiofrequencies and the terms of provision of infrastructure for mobile virtual network operators.
